PLANNING PREPERATION and EXECUTION

The 2022 GGR has now been launched. The Preliminary NOTICE of RACE is available and applications for an invitation to compete are OPEN!. Will that be you? It is far from a simple decision and certainly the challenge is not for everyone, but if you are up for it, then I am sure you are excited to have the opportunity to be part of something quite special. The Golden Globe Race family is like nothing else. The atmosphere is impossible to describe. The challenge great. The adventure pure.

Choosing the right boat for the GGR and deciding how you are going to achieve that ultimate challenge is critical PLANNING, as is the choice of the right gear. Once you have that sorted, the PREPERATION phase will make of break you on the water. You need to go sailing in that boat to settle in and check systems. The EXECUTION will not come easy as it is a long way around the world, you are ahead of the game with a brand new JOSHUA. If like me you are watching some of the entrants overcome problems in this 2018 Race, problems that may not have happened if the Planning and Preparation were right, you can see why they may not be enjoying their GGR as much as they could or should be! somthing went wrong with those plans or preperation.

When Bernard Moitessier went round he had a simple strong boat, well prepared. The JOSHUAGG is even better! Think about it? It would be brand new, so no refits, just final equipment decisions, and any personal deck layout Modifications . One important decision on hanks or Furlers? Then you are basically ready to go sailing which finalizes your PREPERATION phase. There is absolutely no reason for any JOSHUAGG skipper to front up to the Golden Globe Race in anything other than great condition for the challenge! Then it is up to you? I plan to be there.

You will have a fantastic, solid and proven circumnavigation boat that will keep you dry down below, comfortable with 16 tonnes loaded displacement and plenty of sails to play with driving as fast or slow as you desire. Your choice. For me I will sail as fast as I can, but I want to enjoy the ride as well and finish I will! ( touch wood). Can you keep the Rustler 36’s behind you? Only time will tell. They will have spinnakers, you will not, but you may have twin headsails on Furlers that they don’t have. They will be only half your weight while you have legs in the Southern Ocean that they may wish for. You will have a basic solid trim tab windvane system proven by Moitessier himself to work on and on with great reliability. They may not!

It will be a great Race, a great challenge and an Incredible ADVENTURE!….All you need to do is make the decision. I think a JOSHUA can win the 2022 GGR and beat the SUHAILI Class boats.
